Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
The athlete, a former number one, has endured a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.
His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with former mentor his previous coach.
Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.
It is the player's maiden trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from March of that year.
Victory also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.
Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his capacity to play at the top level was over.
Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.
Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the last five games to take the lead.
The competitors swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional victory, took control to force a third set.
Moutet saved 4 early-game opportunities in a close final set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.
Suitably, he clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
