One extended journey around the Australian Coast is being halted days after the tragic passing of an senior lady who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote coastal location.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but separated from the party for a break. The vessel departed without her and came back later that day after the ship staff became aware the lady was unaccounted for.

A major search operation found her person the following day.

Officials are examining the event, alongside investigators and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer stated that travelers and staff on the vessel were informed that the continuation of the journey had been called off due to the "sad loss and previous technical problems".

Via official communication, he further stated that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to arrange the travel back of the passengers via chartered flights".

Officials also published an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Captain" prohibiting any further travelers from getting on the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the ship in the Australian city upon its arrival.

Timeline of Occurrences

The ship first departed the Australian port on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the point of the 80-year-old's passing. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the journey.

Passengers on the ship - who generally pay substantial amounts of dollars to participate in the expedition - were taken there for a daily excursion with the option of walking or snorkeling.

Relatives Response

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her family was "shocked and saddened that the liner left the location after an organised outing without my mum".

Via her announcement, she described her mother as an "active 80-year-old" who was a member of a hiking organization.

"According to scant information we have been told, it looks that there was a lapse of care and basic judgment," she said.

She further stated that she wished the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have done that might have protected Mother's life".

"According to reports from the authorities that it was a extremely warm period, and she fell ill on the hill climb," she explained.

"They requested her to go back, unescorted. Then the ship departed, apparently without conducting a roll call.

"At some stage in that process, or shortly after, mum died, without company."

Operator Position

In a statement, the Chief Executive verified that the organization was "working closely with investigators to support their investigation".

He said that the organization was "very regretful that this has occurred" and had extended its complete assistance to the loved ones.

Maritime Business Practices

The liner accommodates up to 120 guests with nearly fifty personnel, according to official details. It was specifically designed to reach isolated areas of Australia's shoreline and is outfitted with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to take travelers on day excursions.

Occurrences of this nature are infrequent, and cruise ships have protocols to document which passengers are embarking or disembarking, according to maritime specialists.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] onboard just isn't an option," a specialist commented.

Vessel operators regard these processes with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to avoid such events from taking place," the expert further stated.

"This is most likely a shocking - and unfortunate - one-off."
