Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

However, Marseille struck two times late to take a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
