In the 94th minute, sheer ecstasy broke out for Chelsea and interim manager Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández bundled in a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola ranting in frustration and provided the temporary Chelsea manager a truly golden moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane could be billed as the Premier League's most pronounced managerial mismatch, making the recollection of Fernández's crucial intervention one to warm the 40-year-old throughout his career.

A Glaring Contrast in Pedigree

On the home bench was the generation's pre-eminent figure, a man with four decades of silverware for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, taking charge of his 1,012th match. In the opposite technical area, was a one-time trainer at lower-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and arrived to make his first-team debut after being seconded from his regular role overseeing Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a slew of absences, most notably Chelsea's important midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task started out as a mission that seemed close-to-impossible.
